CNN —The Los Angeles Lakers produced their highest scoring night in 37 years on Monday, outlasting the Indiana Pacers 150-145 in a clash between two potent offenses. The Lakers, led by the superstar duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, had four players score at least 25 points in what was the team’s highest scoring game of the season. Indiana held a six-point lead after the first quarter before a scoring explosion from LA saw the team put up 86 points across the second and third quarters alone. “We played (the Pacers) in the (In-Season Tournament) championship, and we know how high-powered an offense they are,” said James. We don’t need to give them life, but at this point in the season, a win is a win.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Anthony Davis and the Lakers might be starting to find their rhythm — just as the uncertainty of the NBA trade deadline approaches. Davis had 26 points, 15 rebounds and 11 assists for his third career triple-double and Los Angeles held on to defeat the short-handed Charlotte Hornets 124-118 on Monday night for their third straight win. “When we put our minds to it, we can beat any team in this league,” Davis said. MANILA, Philippines (AP) — There will be no gold medal for the U.S. at this World Cup. Germany — the last unbeaten team left in the tournament at 7-0 — will play Serbia on Sunday (8:40 a.m. EDT) for the World Cup title. Serbia beat Canada in the first semifinal, getting to its second World Cup final in the last three tournaments; it lost 129-92 to the U.S. in the 2014 championship game. Germany had been 0-6 against the Americans in World Cup or Olympic competition, usually getting blown out in those games. MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Losing a game at the Basketball World Cup, the U.S. national team said, was quite the wake-up call. The Americans turned words into actions and handed the Italians their worst loss in a global tournament — the World Cup or the Olympics — in nearly 45 years. “They created very good shots and they made them.”It was the quarterfinal round where it all went wrong for the U.S. at the World Cup four years ago in China. Italy had beaten the U.S. only twice in 14 previous tries at the senior men’s national level, both times at the world championships — which FIBA now calls the World Cup. … Guaranteed no worse than eighth place, this will be Italy's best World Cup showing since finishing sixth in 1998.
